Renmark is a town located in the Riverland region of South Australia. Here are some interesting facts about Renmark:
1. Renmark is named after James and Charles Chaffey's eldest sister, Renée. James and Charles Chaffey were pioneers of irrigation in the Riverland region.
2. Renmark was established in 1887, with the goal of creating an irrigation colony based on the California model.
3. The Renmark Irrigation Trust was established in 1905, and is responsible for the distribution of water to the irrigators in the area.
4. The Paddle Steamer Industry played an important role in the development of Renmark. The Paddle Steamer "Industry" was built in 1911 and is now a museum.
5. The Chaffey Brothers House, which was built by James and Charles Chaffey in 1889, is now a museum and is listed on the National Trust Register.
6. The town has a population of around 8,000 people and is a major service centre for the Riverland region.
7. The Renmark district produces a variety of crops including citrus, stone fruit, wine grapes and almonds.
8. There are several recreational opportunities in Renmark, including the Renmark Golf Course, the Renmark Swimming Centre, and the Renmark Club.
